creating a content marketing plan

Creating a content marketing plan is essential for your business, but you may not know how to get started. Every business owner intends to be successful from day one, but what most business owners don’t understand is how to create great content and execute on a marketing strategy for that content.

You could be the business owner reading this that is discouraged, because you’ve been creating content and marketing it, but you don’t see the fruit of your labor. What do you do?

The first step is to have a plan in place for marketing your content. How can you gain more readership and get new and fresh ideas to put into action?

Today, I’m going to share with you how to get started with creating valuable content and how to market it in order to get maximum results.

Creating a Content Marketing Plan that is New and Fresh

Every foundation you build in this life starts with a basic premise. You have an idea, but you need something to support it. This is why you create content, and then you market it.

The biggest challenge business owner’s face is finding fresh content to market and share with their audience. I can understand that. I feel the same way, but I continually watch market trends, and I pay close attention to how things are changing with online marketing.

The first step is:

  1. Define your mission, vision, and goals. What do you want to accomplish? What do you plan to accomplish long-term? You should have a mission for your business, but you’ll also want to set short-term goals and long-term goals. You should, at the very least know what your goals are before you put together a content strategy of any kind. Once you have a solid vision and mission of what you hope to accomplish, you can then get started. You should be clear on who your ideal customer is. Who do you want to target? This is the foundation for your planning.
  2. Types of content you’ll use. There are multiple types of content you can use, but you need to know what they are and what you want to start with. Do you want to start with a blog? Do you want to start with video first? What about an EBook? There are tons of ways to reach your audience, but it takes a lot of work. Once you choose the specific type of content you need to get started, you’ll want to use a content management system. That takes a little bit of research before you make your final decision.
  3. Brainstorm for content ideas. Okay, so you can’t come up with ideas out of the air, right? This is why you need to brainstorm when creating a content marketing plan. There has to be some direction in order for you to determine what to do and how to do it. If you need help, brainstorm with another individual to determine what sounds good. If you have a partnership, then this is a great way to brainstorm for new ideas. A trusted colleague is also a great choice for getting the creative juices flowing and making things happen. If you aren’t working with a team of people, look to some resources like HubSpot, Copyblogger, and Social Media Examiner to help you gain some insight and get some new marketing ideas.

There is a lot to be done when it comes to marketing content and building a real marketing strategy, but it all starts with doing the work and creating a content marketing plan to propel your business forward.
